Twenty-four Montgomery County community members have applied for one of two available seats on the county Planning Board.
The applicants are seeking a spot on a five-person board that meets weekly and oversees sector plans, development projects and manages the planning department’s $20 million budget.
Casey Anderson, whose second term on the five-member commission expires in June, has filed for reappointment, and commissioner Norman Dreyfuss will retire from the board in June.
Anderson, chairman of the board since 2014, is eligible to apply for a third term if running to retain his chairmanship, while other commissioners are limited to two terms.
Interviews with the County Council, the governing body that makes Planning Board appointments, are tentatively scheduled for June 11 and June 13. Applicants are being queried if they are interested in serving as chairperson or as a commissioner.
Annual compensation for board members is currently $30,000, while the chairperson, who also oversees the Maryland-National Park and Planning Commission, earns $207,262.
The planning department is a bi-county agency that regulates real estate development, plans transportation infrastructure and manages the park systems for Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.
