New general manager at Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center
David Child has been tabbed as the hotel’s new general manager, succeeding 35-year Marriott veteran Bob Daley, according to a news release.
Child has spent more than 25 years in the industry, starting at the Mayflower Hotel in 1993, according to the release. He took over as director of food and beverage and then director of operations at the Renaissance Westchester Hotel in New York through the 2000s, before returning to the area as general manager at the Renaissance Washington Dupont Circle.
Child was most recently hotel manager of The Ritz-Carlton in the District, where he served as an ambassador and presenter for the Ritz-Carlton Leadership Center, according to the release.
“It has been a privilege throughout my career to serve with some of the most talented employees in the industry,” Child said in a statement. “I am very excited to work with members of the Bethesda North Marriott team as I take on this new role, and work together to further contribute to the newly renovated hotel’s growth and success.”
While the promotion was only recently announced, Child took over the 455-guest room hotel at the end of March, according to the release.
GW Medical Faculty and Associates to close Silver Spring practice
The George Washington University nonprofit physician group announced in late March it was shutting down the GW Immediate & Primary Care facility in a letter to patients.
The location at at 8484 Georgia Ave. will close on April 20.
The facility lost one doctor earlier this year, and another wrapped up his time with the group on Wednesday, according to the letter from Medical Director Maria Portela Martinez.
The GW group took over the facility in April 2015, formerly called Metro Immediate & Primary Care. The practice will still run its three primary care clinics in the District.
“It has been a pleasure to serve you and your family at this location,” Martinez wrote. “As always, we appreciate your loyal support and look forward to providing you with the same great care at any of our other convenient GW Immediate & Primary Care clinics.”

Bethesda painter coming to Gallery B in May
Works by Catherine Levinson will be featured in the “Color of May” exhibit next month, the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District announced last week.
Levinson went to high school and college in New York, but is now based in Bethesda and will bring her “hard edge” style to the gallery, according to a Gallery B news release.
The gallery is managed by the Bethesda Urban Partnership, established in 1994 to market and maintain the downtown area. The arts space is available to artists and groups for one-month rentals, providing a platform to share and sell local work.
