Hogan calls special session to elect new Maryland House speaker

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has ordered a special session of the House Delegates on May 1 to elect a successor for the late Michael Busch.

Busch, the longest-serving House speaker in Maryland history, died on April 7, the day before the General Assembly ended its annual 90-day session. [Washington Post]

The team of companies designing and building Maryland’s Purple Line has replaced its CEO, hoping a new leader will resolve disputes with the state over construction delays and potential cost overruns in the $5.6 billion project.

The change comes as the private consortium, known as Purple Line Transit Partners, and the state Transit Administration debate when the ­16-mile line will begin carrying passengers and how much each side should pay to offset delays and accelerate work. [Washington Post]
