Firefighters rescued a Forest Glen man from his burning house Thursday morning, but could not save his dog.

Crews were dispatched about 6:30 a.m. to the 2300 block of Dexter Avenue near Greeley Street, spokesman Jason Blake said. They found smoke coming from the two-story, single-family house and neighbors told them the resident was likely inside.

Firefighters forced down the front door and found the man near the entrance, Blake said. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The man’s dog was found dead.

One firefighter received a minor injury and was taken to a hospital.

The fire was contained to the first-floor couch and may have been burning for some time, Blake said. The cause is under investigation.
