A state internet crimes investigation led police to arrest a Montgomery County man on Wednesday, charging him with distribution and possession of child pornography.

Andrzej Piwowarski, 43, of Gaithersburg, was identified by the Maryland State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force during a February investigation into offenders sharing child pornography, according to police.

Piwowarski has been charged with two counts of distribution of child pornography and seven counts of possession of child pornography. He was released from custody on bond.

During Wednesday’s search of Piwowarski’s home, police said they found multiple child pornography files on his electronic devices.

Piwowarski is scheduled to appear in Rockville District Court in May. Attorney information was not available in an online database.

The task force is a branch of the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit and involves the coordination of police departments across the state. Investigators focus on finding individuals connected to child pornography online, along with other crimes against children.
