An 18-year-old Germantown man has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in Germantown Tuesday night as police continue to search for the shooter or shooters.
Tray Dawkins, a 2018 graduate of Northwest High School, was standing with a group of people at approximately 9:15 p.m. in a parking lot on Curry Powder Lane in Germantown when “an unknown suspect or suspects began shooting at the group,” according to police.
Two gunshot victims left the scene prior to the police arriving. One had non-life-threatening injuries; the other was Dawkins, who died at the hospital. Two additional victims with non-life-threatening injuries were transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
An online fundraising page says Dawkins participated in football and track in high school and was attending college and working part-time when he died.
“He was a great son, brother, uncle and so on. He was not some street kid he was raised in the church and he had goals he set and accomplished,” the page says.
Police Capt. Tom Jordan, the county police department’s spokesman, on Wednesday afternoon said he was unsure if the three additional victims had been released from the hospital. It was unclear if additional people were with the victims at the time of the shooting.
Jordan also said it remains unclear if there was one shooter or multiple shooters, and urged anyone with information to call the Major Crimes Division at (240) 773-5070. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect or suspects.
“We’re hoping someone saw something, and that the community will provide information,” Jordan said.
