A member of the street gang MS-13 who admitting taking part in a 2015 killing where the victim was stoned, stabbed and left to die in a Silver Spring stream near the Beltway was sentenced Thursday to 33 years in prison, federal prosecutors announced.
Noe Coreas-Mejia, 22, made a deal with federal prosecutors in which he admitted to taking part in a racketeering enterprise that included murder and extortion.
Coreas-Mejia, whose gang name was Tsunami, killed another gangster who had gone to authorities after he was beaten for not making payments to the gang, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The victim, who was not named, was found in the stream three days before Christmas, 2015.
Four others have entered guilty pleas to racketeering charges in the case and are awaiting sentencing.
A fifth man, Kevin Henriquez-Chavez, of Washington Grove, pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy last month and received a 30-year prison sentence.
Information about an attorney for Coreas-Mejia, of Hyattsville, was not immediately available.
Prosecutors said Coreas-Mejia’s gang unit plied the streets in the Langley Park area to extort money.
Federal authorities say the crackdown on gangs operating in Montgomery, Prince George’s and Frederick counties is part of a broader Department of Justice Project Safe Neighborhoods program that works with local law enforcement agencies.
