Pups on the Patio Returns to Silver
The canine tradition started back up at the casual American Brasserie restaurant on April 4 and will continue every Thursday through Sept. 26.
Patrons are encouraged to bring their furry friends to the event, which features happy hour specials from 4 to 7 p.m., including more than 30 items priced at $5.
A portion of the proceeds from the evening go to an animal charity rescue group each week, and Silver raised more than $4,000 last year.
There are dog-associated cocktails, pet giveaways and special guests on the patio, such as veterinarians, groomers and pet walkers.
“We wanted to take advantage of our great outdoor space and invite our many customers to bring their canine companions with them for a fun evening every week,” Silver co-founder Chef Ype Von Hengst said in a statement.
Silver has locations in Bethesda and the District.
Silver Diner revamps menu on 30th anniversary
Another Von Hengst concept, the American family restaurant has added 12 plant-based, Vegan options to its menu.
New items include a Tofu Banh Mi, cauliflower sandwich and the Beyond Meatballs “mac” ‘n cheese.
The Silver Diner menu underwent significant changes in 2018, focusing more on quality and healthiness. Customer feedback led to vegetarian items arriving a few years back, and additional input from consumers spurred the most recent update.
“While we have the usual classic diner items—burgers, shakes, pancakes and more; we also have a growing number of calorie-conscious and healthy plant-based items,” Ype Von Hengst said in a statement. “For us, it’s all about choice and it’s all part of our work at reinventing the American diner.”
Silver Diner has locations in Maryland, Virginia and New Jersey. The original restaurant opened in Rockville in 1989.
