BurgerFi opening at Pike & Rose
The gourmet burger chain will open in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose center on April 8.
The restaurant is owned by the same franchisee who operates BurgerFi locations in Silver Spring and Woodbridge, Virginia.
The North Bethesda location will have BurgerFi’s traditional offerings of burgers, fresh hand-cut fries, onion rings and a selection of craft beers. It will also have self-service kiosks that use facial recognition technology to remember patrons and their orders.
“As firm believers in the BurgerFi brand, we are proud to open our third BurgerFi, as we expand our better burger offerings to the Bethesda community,” franchisee Manuel Sanchez said in a statement. “We hope that our latest technology innovations, including the newest mobile technology, will make it easier for guests ‘on the go’ to order their BurgerFi favorites with just a touch of a button.”
BurgerFi plans to open 20 new locations across the country in 2019. Sanchez’ two restaurants are currently the only locations in the county.
Poké Papa coming to Westfield Montgomery mall
The Hawaiian-inspired poke bowl restaurant will open its third location, joining two in Washington, D.C.
The Bethesda restaurant will be just like the locations in the District, with customizable poke bowls along with signature bowls, according to a news release.
Owner Kerry Chao’s menu offers “a more eclectic and diverse variety of flavor combinations” than traditional poke restaurants, according to the release.
Popular signature bowls include the Onolicious, with yellowfin tuna marinated in seaweed and scallions, and the Lomi Homie, with salmon, sea salt and lime juice.
Poké Papa is slated to arrive in June.
Literary Libations at The Dish & Dram
The American bistro in Kensington is celebrating books during the month of April with literature-themed cocktails, along with a book signing and wine tastings.
Literary Libations are available on a rotating basis for $10, featuring options such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Gin, A Sidecar Named Desire and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margarita. Customers can also enjoy a bar menu based on the staff’s favorite books, including The Codyssey and Twenty Thousand Leeks Under the Sea.
Wine subscription service Grape Intentions founder Brett Freeman will host a free wine tasting on April 10, inspired by “Atlas Obscura: An Explorer’s Guide to the World’s Hidden Wonders.” The featured cocktail that evening will be the Island of Dr. Merlot, available for $6.50.
Author Andrew Gifford will be on hand April 24 signing copies of his book, “We All Scream: The Fall of the Gifford’s Ice Cream Empire.” Baltimore-based Bacchus Importers will have a wine tasting during the event.
The promotion will culminate in the Kensington Day of the Book Festival on April 28, where The Dish & Dram will have a table.
National Beer Day at Gaithersburg Yard House
The Gaithersburg Yard House will be offering $3 pints all day on April 7, in honor of National Beer Day.
The sports bar and restaurant opened in December 2018 in the RIO Washingtonian Center. The 13,000-square-foot restaurant includes a specially-built keg room holding about 3,000 gallons of beer.
The Yard House selection features 130 adult beverages on tap, including options from local brewers such as Burley Oak Brewing Company and RaR Brewing.
The celebration commemorates the Cullen-Harrison Act, which allowed beer to be manufactured and sold in the country following prohibition. The legislation went into effect on April 7, 1933. Federal prohibition would be repealed nine months later through the 21st amendment.
Yard House has 78 locations nationwide, featuring the self-proclaimed largest selection of draft beer on tap.
