A fire at The Waterford Condominium on Tuesday morning caused an estimated $2 million in damages and displaced dozens of residents, authorities said.
The blaze began on the ninth floor of the 150-unit complex at around 5:15 a.m., county Fire and Rescue Services spokesman Pete Piringer reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but has been deemed accidental, Piringer said.
More than 100 firefights responded to 3333 University Blvd. West and managed to remove all residents safely from the building.
The damage include an estimated $1 million to the building’s contents and $1 million to the structure, Piringer said. Around two dozen units were affected.
The woman in the condominium where the fire started was able to sound the building fire alarm to alert others, Piringer said.
She was taken to a hospital and treated for minor smoke inhalation. Another resident and a firefighter were also transported with minor injuries.
Roads around the building were closed for about six hours.
