Rockville City Council to hold hearing on budget
The Rockville City Council will hold a public hearing on its proposed $138.5 million budget at its meeting Monday night. The budget includes economic development grants, city employee compensation and money for carrying out local elections among other aspects. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
Council to meet with retired employees Tuesday
The Montgomery County Council will meet with members of the Montgomery County Retired Employees Association at 12:30 p.m. in on the sixth floor of the council’s office building in Rockville. County Executive Marc Elrich has proposed at $5.7 billion budget that foregoes funding for the county’s retirees benefit health trust fund for the upcoming fiscal year. The council will take action on the final budget in late May.
Council to interview applicants for charter review commission
The Montgomery County Council will conduct interviews with applicants who wish to serve on the county’s charter review commission at its meeting at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the council’s Rockville chambers. The commission is responsible for reviewing and recommending any amendments to county laws, and submits a report every even-numbered year with recommendations to council. There are 18 applicants who are applying for 11 seats.
Health and Human Services Committee to study lead bill
The County Council’s Health and Human Services Committee will review a bill being sponsored by council member Tom Hucker that would set a new standard of acceptable levels of lead in drinking water. The new standard would be 5 parts per billion, and would apply to county schools as well as other public facilities such as libraries and recreation centers. The hearing begins at 2:30 p.m. in the council’s Rockville office building.
