Chef José Andrés’ vegetable-centric restaurants will offer a few new items as the weather warms up, including the Rice Rice Baby bowl and The G.O.A.T. sandwich.
The menu will also feature a Grab + Go section with snack items that can be scooped up and eaten quickly, such as Mini Beet Poke and Hummus and Veggies.
The restaurant has locations in Maryland, Ohio and the District, including one in Westfield Montgomery mall Bethesda. Beefsteak is not vegetarian, but focuses grains and farm-fresh produce.
Andrés launched the concept in 2015, and opened the Bethesda location in June 2016.
Mission BBQ celebrates National Vietnam War Veterans Day
The barbecue chain will provide free sandwiches for all Vietnam War veterans on Friday and play the National Anthem at noon.
Mission BBQ frequently supports the military and law enforcement. The chain is currently running its Hometown Heroes fundraiser, which raised $427,000 for charities chosen by police and fire departments in 2018.
The county’s lone Mission BBQ location is at 885 Rockville Pike in Rockville.
The recognition of National Vietnam War Veterans Day was signed into law in 2017, designating March 29 as the annual observance. The date signifies the final day troops were withdrawn from Vietnam in 1973.
Jaleo named finalist for James Beard Foundation award
Another José Andrés creation, Jaleo’s location in Washington, D.C., was nominated for Outstanding Restaurant by the foundation.
The award is given to a restaurant “that demonstrates consistent excellence in food, atmosphere, service, and operations,” according to the foundation, a national nonprofit based in New York City. Nominees must be in business for at least 10 consecutive years.
Jaleo will be competing against four other finalists, including nominees from San Francisco, Philadelphia and New York City.
The winners will be announced at the annual James Beard Awards Gala on May 6 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Jaleo has five locations, including one in Bethesda.
