Developers of the Marriott International headquarters office tower in downtown Bethesda have adjusted the construction schedule for utility work on Woodmont Avenue to accommodate nearby residents, with noise-related activities shifting to the morning hours.
Hensel Phelps, the project’s general contractor, was in talks with the county earlier this month to revise hours for the work following complaints from residents about late-night noise.
The new schedule began on Monday, with traffic control operations starting at 6 a.m. and work running from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Marriott announced Friday.
Construction had been starting at 6 p.m. and going to 5 a.m., with Hensel Phelps trying to get the noisier work done between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Certain portions of the work will still occur during the evening hours.
Hensel Phelps obtained an updated noise waiver from the county two weeks ago to continue evening construction at the site, but the modified schedule should give them more time to work and avoid the late-night noise complaints, Montgomery County Regional Services Director Ken Hartman said in an email.
Once construction reaches the intersection of Woodmont and Norfolk avenues, the schedule will revert to night work to minimize disruptions to the businesses in the area, Hartman said.
