The Marilyn J. Praisner Library in Burtonsville will be closed for four to six months starting April 14 to undergo renovations. The renovations are part of the county’s library refurbishment program. “Physical construction for the refresh project at Praisner will begin in May, but we are closing ahead of the construction start date to complete the internal reorganization of collections and shelving,” said county libraries director Anita Vassallo in a news release.
The “refresh” process typically involves interior improvements such as refurbishing restrooms, repainting walls, installing new carpet and relocating service desks. Eight of the county’s 22 libraries have undergone the process.
The Praisner library is one of two county libraries scheduled for a renovation in the next fiscal year, with the other being the Long Branch Library in Silver Spring.
Vassallo added that while the library is closed, the county will provide book hold lockers and a book drop at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center, which is adjacent to the library.
