Council committee to review accessory apartments proposal
The county’s Planning, Housing and Economic Development, or PHED, Committee will review a bill proposed by council member Hans Riemer that would allow accessory dwelling units, or in-law apartments, in three additional residential zones. The bill would also do away with the size limit of 1,200 square feet. The hearing begins at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the council’s Rockville chambers.
Council to hold public hearing on gender equity pay bill
The County Council will hold a public hearing on a bill proposed by council member Evan Glass that would prohibit requesting a county employee’s salary history and using salary as a baseline for determining future pay. The hearing begins at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the council’s Rockville chamber.
Supreme Court to hear gerrymandering case
The U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral argument in the case of Lamone v. Benisek on Tuesday, to decide whether Maryland must redraw its congressional districts prior to the 2020 election. The case centers on complaints from Republican voters in the state’s sixth congressional district, which extends from upper Montgomery County to Garrett County. The voters claim that they have been disenfranchised because the large amount of largely-Democratic Montgomery that the district includes dilutes the power of the more conservative parts of the district in Western Maryland. Planning department to give presentation on White Flint 2
The Montgomery County Planning Department and Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission will give a presentation on the White Flint 2 Sector Plan, which will involve converting a number of strip shopping centers and parking lots along Rockville Pike into mixed-use development. The meeting will take place from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Shriver Kennedy Aquatic Center in Rockville.
