South Street Steaks has been closed since mid-July 2018 after a truck damaged a wall, but a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page in July it would open as soon as repairs were completed.

Construction was halted by the county after a stop-work order was issued in December, then resumed and has largely concluded.

A leasing sign from The Greenhill Companies, based in Bethesda, recently went up on the restaurant’s now-completed facade.

A representative from the real estate group confirmed the tenant was no longer there and the property at 4856 Cordell Ave. is now available.

Golden Samovar celebrates spring New Year

Authentic Russian restaurant Golden Samovar in Rockville will host a Nowruz celebration on Friday, welcoming in the Persian New Year and spring.

Also known as Navruz, the holiday takes place on the spring equinox, which is Thursday. The restaurant will hold its own festivities the following day from 7:30 p.m. to midnight. The party will have traditional dancers, singers, foods and desserts.

“For my family growing up, Navruz has been a celebration of growth and a looking forward to a new day,” Golden Samovar owner Ika Nasimova said in a statement. “I wanted to share that sense of optimism with the community so we can celebrate our differences and the peace that comes with cultural understanding.”

The restaurant hosted a similar event last year and 75 people attended.

Hibachi restaurant coming to Silver Spring

Real estate company Renaud Consulting announced Quickway Japanese Hibachi has signed a lease at Hillandale shopping center.

The restaurant brings the open grill Hibachi style to a quick service setting, preparing food in front of customers but in a timely manner.

The Quickway Hibachi menu includes beef, chicken and shrimp entrees, sushi rolls and dumpling, among other Japanese staples.

The restaurant has seven locations in the Washington area, including one in Rockville.
