Silver Spring and Kensington residents could see discolored water
Some Montgomery County residents could experience discolored water Thursday due to residual mineral deposit from repairs the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission is performing in Silver Spring and Kensington. The WSSC advises that the water is safe to drink, although it suggests not using it to do laundry [WTOP].
Maryland lawmakers debate scholarship money for private schools
As state lawmakers in Annapolis debate the $46 billion budget plan, one of the issues that has surfaced is a $4.5 million addition that would go toward scholarships to private schools for low-income students as part of the BOOST voucher program. The Senate budget bill includes the funding while the House version eliminates it. Sen. Cheryl Kagan, a Montgomery Democrat, said she opposes the additional BOOST funding because she would prefer the money be used to fund public schools [Maryland Matters].
Bethesda teenager practices trampoline in preparation for world championships
Tomas Minc, a 14-year-old student at Westland Middle School in Bethesda, won a world championship in St. Petersburg, Russia last year with teammate Ryan MacCagnan in the sport of synchronized trampoline for his age group. He has been practicing gymnastics since the age of three and hopes to qualify for the world championships again this year in the 15-to16-year-old age group [Washington Post].
