Fast-casual restaurant will feature recipes from around world

Fuse Taco will open its doors Thursday in downtown Bethesda, bringing tacos from around the world to the former Bold Bite space.

The fast-casual restaurant at 4903 Cordell Ave. was scheduled to open Wednesday, but wasn’t quite ready, pushing the debut to the following day.

Owner Kaz Kazmi signed a lease for the space in October 2018, and Fuse Taco will be his second restaurant, following Indian eatery Merzi, in the District.

The tacos will represent cultures from around the world, with a trio featured every three months, Kazmi said. He and a team will be traveling the world to visit vendors and learn their recipes, which will then come to Fuse Taco.

“It’s all about the culture themselves,” Kazmi said.

When customers order a taco, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the originator of the recipe, Kazmi said.

In addition to the variety of rotating tacos, the menu will include grilled meat sticks, Mexican street corn and chips and queso. Customers can close their meal with a Fuse O, a crispy pastry cooked in-house. The restaurant will also serve beer and wine.

Visitors receive a free taco with every order during the grand opening on Thursday.

Kazmi is open to other locations but wants to see how the restaurant fares before branching out, he said, though he’s confident in the Bethesda location.

“This group of people is pretty well-versed in culture,” Kazmi said. “This will be a great marriage.”
