Supreme Court to revisit sentence of Beltway Sniper
In its next term, the Supreme Court will hear a case reconsidering the life sentence of Lee Boyd Malvo, who was one of two men responsible for carrying out the D.C. sniper attacks that killed 10 people throughout the region in the fall of 2002. Bethesda attorney nominated for Court of Special Appeals receives favorable vote in Senate
Stephen Bennett Gould, Bethesda attorney at the firm Brown Gould Kiely, received a favorable vote in the state Senate’s executive nominations committee Monday. Gould has been nominated by Gov. Larry Hogan for the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. The full senate will vote on approval next week. [Maryland Matters]
House passes updated lead standards bill
The Maryland House of Delegates on Monday passed a bill that would require stricter standards for the amount of lead allowed in water in school drinking fountains. The bill is being sponsored by Del. Jared Solomon, who is a Chevy Chase Democrat. [Baltimore Sun]
Police warn of phone scam
Montgomery County police are warning of a scam in which callers pretend to be police officers and are telling people they have an outstanding warrant or fine and must call back. After calling back, users are asked to pay a fine using an online gift card. Police spokesman Capt. Tom Jordan said no police officer would ask someone to pay a fine using a gift card. [WJLA]
