Council to hold public hearing on education grant money
The County Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday on a $384,986 grant from the Maryland State Department of Education that will be used for emergency aid, such as helping students who have been impacted by natural disasters.
The public hearing begins at 1:30 p.m. in the council chamber in Rockville.
Council to vote on non-merit positions bill
The Montgomery County Council is scheduled to vote on a bill Tuesday, requested by County Executive Marc Elrich, that would convert several management positions in county government from merit to non-merit status, meaning that the jobs would no longer include certain salary and benefit protections. The county’s merit system functions similar to the federal civil service system. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. in the council chamber in Rockville.
Rockville City Council to hold final interview session
The Rockville City Council will hold its final round of interviews Wednesday to fill the vacancy on the council created by last year’s departure of Julie Palakovich Carr to the state legislature.
The candidates under consideration are Monique Ashton, James J. Hedrick and Robert J. Wright. Following the interviews, the council will appoint one of the candidates to the position, who will serve out the remainder of Palakovich Carr’s term until the November council elections. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the mayor and council chambers.
Friedson to host town hall Friday at Potomac Restaurant
County Council member Andrew Friedson, whose district includes Bethesda and Potomac, will hold the first of his “Fridays with Friedson” series from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Tally Ho Restaurant in Potomac. Friedson’s town hall series aims to engage constituents in informal conversation.
