Finian’s Rainbow—Friday night—Olney Theatre Centre
Olney Theatre Centre’s “Applause Series” features concert versions of musicals. Finian’s Rainbow follows a father and daughter who have moved from Ireland to the American South on a quest for treasure. The show starts at 8 p.m.; tickets are $60.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade—Saturday—RIO Washingtonian Center, Gaithersburg
The 19th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at 10 a.m. at Lakefront Plaza. Silver Spring rock band Lloyd Dobbler Effect will perform from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will also include family-friendly activities, merchant specials and giveaways.

Exploding Shamsas—Saturday—Gandhi Memorial Center, Bethesda
Artist Lubna Zahid’s mixed media art exhibit opens at 2 p.m. Saturday with a reception and presentation by Dr. Hamza M. Zafer, an assistant professor at University of Washington. Zahid “experiments with bold renditions of Islamic decorative forms” using watercolor, graphite and clay, according to the event website. Reservations are required.

The Magic School Bus—Saturday and Sunday—Olney Theatre Centre
There are five performances this weekend of the children’s classic, adapted from a Scholastic book series and made famous by the PBS television show. Two performances are already sold out. Tickets to the 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday performances start at $10. The 10 a.m. Saturday performance is “sensory-friendly” for children and adults who are sensitive to lights and sounds.
