Small Bites: County Has Five Finalists for Restaurant Association Awards

Plus: Urban Plates opens at Westfield Montgomery; St. Patrick’s Day deals at Caddies

Finalists for the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington’s  2019 awards, known as the Rammys, were announced Monday and there are five from Montgomery County establishments. Silver Spring’s Quarry House Tavern has nominees in two categories.

The nominees from Montgomery County and the categories:

• Republic in Takoma Park – Beer Program of the Year
• Chef Javier Fernandez of Kuya Ja’s Lechon Belly in Rockville – Rising Culinary Star of the Year
• Quarry House Tavern in Silver Spring – Favorite Gathering Place of the Year
• Quarry House Tavern owners Jackie Greenbaum and Gordon Banks – Restaurateur of the Year
• Sabrine Marques of PassionFish Bethesda – Manager of the Year

There are five finalists selected in each category.

Any RAMW member meeting the category requirements is eligible to receive the regional honors, selected by the public and an anonymous panel of judges.

Winners will be announced at a June 30 gala.

Urban Plates opens in Westfield Montgomery mall

The fast-casual restaurant debuted its third East Coast location with a ribbon-cutting and is now open for business.

St. Patrick’s Day specials at Caddies

The Bethesda bar and grill will have food and drink deals all weekend long. Customers can enjoy green bar, Jameson whiskey and Reuben sandwiches to celebrate the shamrock season.

Caddies will also have a green eggs and ham brunch from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with bottomless Irish coffee and mimosas.

The restaurant will be giving away samples of Jameson, Guinness and Bud Light for patrons wearing the most festive outfits.

All-day breakfast, new items at Modern Market Eatery

The restaurant has added a Mediterranean Bowl, seasonal vegetables and breakfast options including avocado toast and dessert waffles, available anytime.

The menu will be updated March 27.

The new bowl uses 100 percent grass-fed beef, which is not only delicious but better for the environment, Chef Nate Weir said in a statement.

There are Modern Market restaurants in Bethesda and Rockville.

Matchbox celebrates Pi Day

The pizza bistro will have its Marchbox IPA for $3.14 all day at every location in honor of March 14.

The restaurant has a Rockville location and one coming to Bethesda this summer.
