Silver Spring man accused of plotting attack pleads not guilty in latest hearing

Christopher P. Hasson, 49, appeared in U.S. District Court in Maryland on drug and weapons charges related to what prosecutors allege was a plan to attack politicians and journalists. Hasson has served in the Coast Guard for over 20 years. He was indicted two weeks ago after suspicious activity was flagged on his work devices, leading investigators to a stockpile of weapons and a alleged list of targets.  [Washington Post]

North Potomac high school battling e-cigarettes

Quince Orchard High School has temporarily closed some bathrooms and sent a letter home to parents about its efforts to curb vaping. Students have been found buying, selling or using vaping devices 12 times in the past two weeks, according to the letter. [Fox 5]

County students create all-female academic competition

InteGirls was founded by 10 female high school students to encourage the pursuit of learning in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The first friendly competition will be in May at Montgomery College’s Rockville location. [WTOP]
