Council to consider multiple additions to schools budget

The Montgomery County Council will discuss several additions to Montgomery County Public Schools operating and capital budget at its meeting Tuesday morning. Among the proposed amendments are more than $3 million in grant funding for the expansion of literacy and technology programs in the fiscal 2019 operating budget. The council will also consider a request from the school system to direct $15 million in the five-year capital budget toward school renovations. The meeting begins at 9 a.m.

County to hold forum on racial equity

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Council President Nancy Navarro and other county leaders will hold a forum on racial equity and social justice at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Silver Spring Civic Center. Navarro will also speak about the county’s early childhood education initiative, which was announced last week.

Council seeking applications to public election fund committee

The Montgomery County Council is seeking applicants to serve on the Committee to Recommend Funding for the Public Election Fund, which distributes money to candidates running for County Council and executive positions by matching contributions of $150 or less with public money. The system began in last year’s election cycle.

The committee will be made up of five county residents, and no more than three can be of the same political party. Committee members serve four-year terms. Applicants must submit a letter expressing interest and a resume. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday and should be addressed to Council President Nancy Navarro, County Council Office, Stella B. Werner Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, Maryland 20850. Applications can also be submitted via email to county.council@montgomerycountymd.gov.
