Man convicted of 2010 Gaithersburg nursing home rape

Davon Gray was found guilty of first-degree rape and armed robbery following a four-day trial. Prosecutors said Gray followed an employee into a restroom at Asbury Nursing Home, put a gun to her head and raped her. Gray was recently convicted in Virginia for a separate crime, and his entry into the criminal database linked him to the 2010 crime. [Fox 5]

House votes to remove Franchot’s alcohol and tobacco power

The proposed legislation would place oversight under the control of a statewide commission appointed by the governor. The bill now moves to the Senate. [Maryland Matters]

State close to ending non-disclosure agreements for abusive teachers

A bill banning the agreements for teachers fired over allegations of abuse recently passed in the House. “It doesn’t even make sense not to be able to have the person who is hiring a teacher not know they were fired for sexual impropriety,” advocate Carolyn Surrick of Annapolis said. “If this law was in effect then, it would have saved so many kids.” [WUSA9]
