Police have identified the woman charged with armed carjacking Wednesday morning after she allegedly stole a man’s car in North Potomac.

Awa Rahman, 19, of Central Park Circle in Alexandria, Virginia, is accused of forcing a man from his car with what he believed to be a gun and driving off in his Subaru Outback.

Police received an emergency call at 12:03 a.m. Wednesday reporting a carjacking at the intersection of Amberlea Farm Drive and Dufief Mill Road.

An officer located the Subaru about 10 minutes later eastbound on Darnestown Road and Muddy Branch Road.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, activating his cruiser’s emergency lights and siren, and pursued the car.

Police said Rahman crashed into trees along Clara Barton Parkway. She was taken to a hospital, treated and then taken to the county’s detention center.

Rahman’s initial court appearance is scheduled for April 5 in Rockville District Court. Defense attorney information was not available in online court records Thursday morning.
