Preliminary court hearing waived in a case that authorities say was a drug-related shooting

One of three suspects charged after a double homicide in White Oak will stay in a county detention facility after his preliminary hearing was put off Friday.

Dontaye Jamahl Hunt, 18, of Silver Spring has been held without bond since his Jan. 30 arrest.

He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Jordan Alexander Radway and Christian Deon Roberts.

Police and prosecutors say Radway and Roberts were killed during an apparent drug deal set up by Hunt and Noah Foster Barnett, 18, who was charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana.

Cellphone data connected the four individuals, with Barnett setting up the deal with Radway and Hunt as the buyer, according to charging documents.

Hunt’s attorney, Joseph McKenzie of McKenzie Tehrani Law Firm, declined to comment on his decision to waive Friday’s hearing.

In charging documents regarding the third suspect, Andy Panton, Hunt told investigators he was seated in the car when Radway and Roberts were shot, but someone else was involved in the shooting. Panton is also charged with two counts of first-degree murder

McKenzie said he would be filing another motion regarding Hunt’s bond status. Another hearing was set for March 29, where the case will be reviewed and a trial date may be determined.
