Former Maryland congressman John Delaney will use the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center in Silver Spring as a set for a new advertisement for his presidential campaign.
Delaney’s campaign is looking for extras – and promising pizza – for the video shoot, scheduled from 2:15 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Mike Hopkins, Delaney’s press secretary, said the candidate’s commercial is part of his effort to “campaign across all 50 states.” He declined to elaborate about the campaign’s strategy, or reasons the college setting was selected.
Delaney, a Potomac Democrat, represented the Sixth Congressional District from 2013 until January. He launched his presidential campaign in 2017, and was replaced in Congress by by David Trone, the co-founder of Total Wine & More, also a Democrat from Potomac.
Most of Delaney’s campaign activities have been concentrated in Iowa and New Hampshire, which are the first two states to hold primaries in the 2020 cycle.
Trone’s campaign office sent out an email this week asking for extras to participate in Delaney’s video shoot.
College spokesman Marcus Rosano said a third-party media company rented the space at the arts center. He said anyone may rent the space.
“There’s no favoring of one campaign to another,” he said.
Rosano wasn’t sure how much the media company paid, but said the base fee is $1,820 for a minimum of five hours.
“That includes the $1,300 theatre rate, $260 custodial fee, and $260 house management fee. The theatre rate goes up by $260 per hour from the 5-hour minimum,” he wrote in an email.
