Oil—Friday through Sunday—Olney Theatre
The American premiere of British play Oil opened this week at Olney Theatre. The Guardian called the Ella Hickson play that follows mother and daughter dynamics through the ages “scorchingly ambitious.” The Saturday night performance is sold out. Adult tickets to the Friday night performance are $54; adult tickets to the Sunday matinee are $74.
Rosanne Cash & Band—Friday night—The Music Center at Strathmore, North Bethesda
The Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter will perform songs from Norma Rae, a musical she is writing that is based the 1979 film. Rosanne is the daughter of country music legend Jonny Cash. The concert begins at 8 p.m.; tickets start at $29.
2018: A Second Look—Saturday through Sunday—AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, Silver Spring
The top movies of the year return to the screen for this film series at AFI. South Korean film Burning kicks off the weekend with an 11 a.m. showing Saturday morning. Leave No Trace, which follows a father and daughter living off the grid in Oregon, will be shown Sunday morning at 11:45 a.m. Argentine film Zama wraps up the weekend Sunday at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online.
BSA Troop 8 Centennial Celebration—Saturday night—The Woman’s Club of Chevy Chase
The Boy Scout troop will celebrate 100 years of service with a dinner, exhibits and Troop history. The event runs 5 to 9 p.m.
American Girl Live—Sunday—The Music Center at Strathmore, North Bethesda
The original musical follows five girls at sleep-away camp. There is limited availability for the 2 p.m. show. A 6:30 p.m. performance follows. Tickets start at $30.
