Several apartment buildings on Bethesda’s Battery Lane are in line to be redeveloped under a long-term proposal being prepared by Aldon Management Corp. and outlined in a letter sent to tenants Tuesday.

The company said six of its older buildings will be redeveloped in phases over the next 15 years “into five all-new residential properties that offer modern living.”

Aldon’s letter said it expects to file initial designs with county planners “within a few weeks” and other improvements planned along sidewalks and the street will make Battery Lane “one of Bethesda’s most beautiful and livable residential neighborhoods.”

Any work “will not begin for at least a few years,” the letter said, and the company is planning community meetings on the project.

Bethesda-based Aldon is a family-owned real estate company that has apartment buildings in Bethesda and Chevy Chase, most built in the late 1950s and 1960s.

One of the company’s holdings is The Glens on Battery Lane which includes six apartment buildings with one-, two- and three-bedroom units between Old Georgetown Road and Wisconsin Avenue.

Aldon says it will follow the Bethesda Downtown Sector Plan, adopted in 2017 and focused on revitalizing the area to incorporate more green and open space. The sector plan outlines 4.2 million square feet of new development in the downtown area and includes measures to protect affordable housing units.

In its letter, the company emphasized the proposed development would not begin for several years and a “comprehensive resident relocation plan” for tenants will be implemented before the project begins.
