Comptroller files ethics complaint against Montgomery lawmaker

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot has filed a complaint with the legislature’s Joint Committee on Legislative Ethics against Sen. Ben Kramer, a Wheaton Democrat. Kramer, who has introduced legislation that would shift alcohol and tobacco control away from Franchot’s office, has accused the comptroller of extortion for the purpose of soliciting political donations from those industries [Washington Post].

30-year-old Montgomery County woman goes missing

Nicole Hooks, a 30-year-old Montgomery County woman, went missing after last being seen around 7:15 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Sligo Avenue and Fenton Street in Silver Spring. Montgomery County police say Hooks is black, has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a long black coat, dark gray jeans and blue sneakers [WUSA].

A Kemp Mill couple brought Kosher Chinese food to Silver Spring

It has been one year since Rivka and Ami Schreiber, an Orthodox Jewish couple living in Silver Spring’s Kemp Mill neighborhood, opened Holy Chow, a kosher Chinese restaurant. Despite no previous experience in running a restaurant, the Schreibers made their vision a reality after consulting several friends. To adhere to Jewish tradition, the restaurant does not serve pork or shellfish, and uses imported kosher chicken and beef [Washington Post].
