Franchot Planning To File Ethics Complaint Against Montgomery County Lawmaker

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot plans to file an ethics complaint Monday against state Sen. Ben Kramer, a Wheaton Democrat in response to accusations that the comptroller’s acceptance of campaign contributions from the liquor industry represented extortion. Kramer has introduced legislation that would shift the regulation of alcohol and tobacco industries from Franchot’s office to a five-member committee [Maryland Matters]

Burtonsville man fatally shot in Northwest D.C.

David Elijah Brandon, a 30-year-old Burtonsville man, was fatally shot early Sunday morning in the 4300 block of Georgia Avenue in D.C.’s Petworth neighborhood. D.C. police officers responded to a reported assault around 1:30 a.m. Sunday and took Brandon and another man to a local hospital with gunshot wounds [Washington Post].

Dozens participate in charity indoor bike ride Sunday in Bethesda

Equinox gym in Bethesda hosted dozens of people Sunday morning for the annual Cycle for Survival event – a fundraiser where people who have been affected by cancer ride indoor bikes to raise money for cancer research. It was one of 16 Cycle for Survival rides happening during the next month. The movement has raised more than $200 million nationally since 2007 [Fox 5].

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for much of the greater Washington region until 1 p.m., with some gusts expected to reach 50 mph. Pepco reported hundreds of outages in Maryland Monday morning. Temperatures will reach a high of 43 degrees Monday and fall to 28 degrees tonight.
