A man who jumped from an atrium walkway inside the Bethesda Hyatt Regency hotel Tuesday died from his injuries, authorities said.
Montgomery County police were investigating the case as an attempted suicide and confirmed Thursday the man died.
Police declined to provide the man’s name, or additional details, such as age or hometown.
Fire and rescue service crews responded at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday and took the man to a local hospital with serious injuries, spokesman Pete Piringer reported.
The Bethesda Hyatt Regency did not respond to requests for comment on Tuesday or Thursday.
Suicide rates nationally climbed 25 percent between 1999 and 2016, according to a health care foundation report released last year.
The county’s community health group Healthy Montgomery reported 7.3 suicide deaths per 100,000 residents from 2013 to 2015, its most recent data.
United Health Foundation reported between 9.5 and 9.8 intentional self-harm deaths per 100,000 residents in Maryland from 2013 to 2015. The foundation’s 2018 numbers put the state rate at 9.7 deaths per 100,000 residents.
