Wang Dynasty restaurant is coming to Bethesda, replacing Shanghai Village.

The Chinese restaurant will open at 4929 Bethesda Ave. after Shanghai Village owner Kwok Cheung finishes his final month in the building.

The new owners take over the property on March 1, Libra Realty broker Jenny Liu said. Permitting and licensing will dictate how soon Wang Dynasty will be able to open to customers.

It will be a nice transition, some of the old tradition with updates and new perspectives, landlord Marc Geffroy of Seneca Properties Inc. said.

“We explored a lot of different concepts, but at the end of the day, if it’s not broke why fix it,” Geffroy said. “It made a lot of sense to stick with what was there.”

The Wang Dynasty owners have been in the industry for 30 years, Liu said, including at restaurants in Montgomery County. They owned Michael’s Noodles in Rockville, which closed in March 2017.

Wang Dynasty will be an entirely different concept from the owners’ previous restaurants.

The cuisine will be similar to that of Shanghai Village, with a kitchen already in place to accommodate the new tenants. The new owners plan to redo the dining interior and spruce up the exterior.

Geffroy doesn’t foresee major renovations because of the similarities to the previous restaurant, which is why Wang Dynasty is expected to open relatively soon after Shanghai Village closes in late February.

“We’re very excited to have them in there,” Geffroy said.
