More than five dozen firefighters were dispatched in subfreezing temperatures after midnight to battle a raging fire in a vacant Potomac house, according to the county’s fire service.
Around 60 to 75 firefighters were on scene in the 10100 block of Chapel Road off River Road, fire service spokesman Pete Piringer said.
There were no injuries and discussions with neighbors led investigators to believe the residence was vacant, Piringer said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and a damage estimate was not available.
Piringer said arriving crews reported heavy fire conditions and significant damage. Crews remained at the scene through the night to monitor hot spots, with the fire under control and contained to the one residence.
