Mexican restaurant Cielo Rojo is now open in Takoma Park, offering handmade tortillas and a carefully-crafted tequila menu.
Director of Operations Carolina McCandless grew up in the area, living in Cabin John but working for years at her parents’ Takoma Park boutique.
“I have deep roots in the area,” McCandless said. “I just thought Takoma Park was the perfect place for our concept.”
The restaurant at 7056 Carroll Ave. has a festive dining room, Mexican artwork and photography. Diners can observe Chef David Perez, McCandless’ husband, at work in the open kitchen.
McCandless recently returned to the area from San Francisco, and knew Takoma Park was the right area for her concept.
“It has a very special vibe,” McCandless said. “I love how they support small business and everything is very local-focused.”
BurgerFi offering anniversary deals
The restaurant is celebrating eight years in operation with specials each day next week, including $2.50 shakes on Feb. 7 and free fries with any purchase on Feb. 8.
Customers must download the BurgerFi app and become a rewards member to access the deals.
The county’s lone location is in Silver Spring at 8504 Fenton Street.
The company has made a few recent upgrades, including the addition of the all-vegan Beyond Burger and the implementation of facial recognition kiosks.
Caddies catering for Super Bowl
The downtown Bethesda sports bar merged with Heckman’s Deli to create Heckman’s Caddies Catering.
