After receiving updated weather information, Montgomery County public schools announced this morning classes will end early today.

Students will be dismissed 2 ½ hours earlier than the regular closing times, the school system said.

Morning pre-kindergarten and half-day Head Start classes will end at 10:50 a.m.

Afternoon pre-k and early childhood classes are canceled as are school and community activities in school buildings later in the day and at night.

A weather system with a mix of rain, snow and sleet is expected to arrive by mid-day, making afternoon commutes difficult, according to forecasts.

The precipitation is expected to be followed by extreme cold, which could cause re-freezing on sidewalks, parking lots, roads and bridges overnight.
