Cable Worker Left Hanging in Truck’s Lift

Rescue crews pluck worker stuck near top of pole

January 28, 2019 10:23 p.m.

A cable television company is investigating why the lift on a work truck pitched horizontally last week, leaving a worker hanging near the top of a utility pole in Kensington.

County fire and rescue crews rescued the Comcast worker, who was found hanging from the bucket of the lift Friday morning.

Comcast confirmed the employee was wearing safety equipment when the incident occurred, spokeswoman Aimee Metrick said in a statement.

The state Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires state employers to report workplace incidents involving physical injury, but the incident wouldn’t meet reporting requirements if there was no injury.

Maryland Occupational Safety and Health was not notified of the incident.

“We all share a commitment and responsibility to providing a safe and healthful work environment for Maryland workers,” MOSH spokeswoman Theresa Blaner said in a statement.
