Jaleo Bethesda will begin its annual cooking class series with “Spanish Date Night” on Feb. 12.
The courses run monthly until June, teaching methods and techniques.
“We provide recipes that we follow throughout the class and they’re able to take that home,” Jaleo head chef José Ayala said. “We do dishes that can be recreated at home, we don’t do anything that’s really difficult.”
Participants are taken into the kitchen where Ayala gives a rundown of the ingredients and walks them through preparation. The class fixes three to four dishes depending on the theme of the evening, and then sit down to dinner with their own creations.
“It’s more of a personal experience,” Ayala said. “The guests come inside the kitchen, they see everything that’s going on.”
The “Spanish Date Night” menu includes scallops, oysters and a truffle dish. Items typically come from the current fare during the season, in this case the Valentine’s Day cuisine.
Each class costs $99. Groups are limited to around 10 people to ensure a hands-on atmosphere, Ayala said.

Federal Realty Investment Trust announced the opening of the Danish coffee shop chain in Bethesda last Thursday in a news release.
The 1,900 square-foot store is expected to open this summer between Sanctuary Interior Design and Irresistibles.

“Wildwood’s dining experience offers an expanded selection of handcrafted, fresh and convenient dining options that are complimentary to the existing celebrated merchants,” Federal Realty director of asset management Kari Glinski said in the release.
Joe & The Juice has more than 250 locations around the world. The Bethesda store will be the fourth in the Washington area.
The menu has a variety of blended fruit and vegetable combinations, including “Sex Me Up” (passion fruit, apple, ginger) and “Joe’s Green Mile” (broccoli, spinach, avocado, apple, lemon). Sandwiches, omelets and coffee round out the fare.

Frozen Stuff on a Stick leaves Westfield Montgomery Mall
The popsicle shop opened a pop-up store in December. When the lease ran out the company chose not to re-up with the mall, owner Joel Rogozinski said in an interview Wednesday.
Frozen Stuff will not be returning to the mall but will bring its fresh, seasonal pops to multiple stores in the District in the coming weeks, Rogozinski said.
Addie’s in Potomac to debut new menu
The restaurant has added several items, including a charred Spanish octopus, Idaho trout and ricotta pumpkin ravioli, general manager Ronan McEvoy said in an email.
Most of the side dishes will be swapped for other selections. Addie’s also added a designated “Sides” section to better serve its customers, McEvoy said.
The new menu will be released Feb. 5.
