Head of Diener School resigns

Noreen Buchanan has resigned as Head of Diener School in Potomac to “address ongoing health issues,” the school announced earlier this month.

Buchanan was lauded for her efforts to foster student growth and family engagement. She was replaced by Kathy Chumas, who will serve as the interim head of school through the remainder of the school year.

With a student-teacher ratio of about 3:1, the Diener School was founded in 2007 to provide special education programs for students with language, learning and social development needs.

Eight county students receive full scholarships

Eight high school seniors in the county school system received full-tuition scholarships from the Posse Foundation.

The foundation identifies students with “extraordinary academic and leadership potential that may have been overlooked by traditional college selection processes,” according to a news release from the school district.

The eight students were honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., and include:

Bethesda students donate to Manna Food Center

Students at Bethesda Country Day School recently donated more than 530 pounds of food to Manna Food Center in Gaithersburg and 60 gifts to Toys for Tots.

The school held donation drives for more than a month to collect the items to highlight the importance of helping others in need.

Manna Food Center provides food assistance to families and individuals who meet certain income requirements while Toys for Tots, run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve provides toys to children in need each holiday season.
