Leggett among those who will speak at Hogan’s inauguration

Former Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will speak at Gov. Larry Hogan’s inauguration in Annapolis Wednesday. Leggett, a Democrat, has formed a close relationship with the Republican governor despite endorsing Hogan’s Democratic opponent, Ben Jealous, during the election. Also speaking at the ceremony will be former Florida governor and Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush. [Washington Post]

Adam Ortiz helped Prince George’s County acquire an environmentally friendly reputation

Adam Ortiz has led Prince George’s County’s Department of the Environment since 2012, helping the county vault to the top of the state’s rankings in recycling, overseeing one of the largest composting facilities on the East Coast and creating a partnership with minority businesses to address storm water runoff among other accomplishments. Ortiz has been tapped by Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich to head the county’s Department of Environmental Protection. [Washington Post]

Maryland lawmakers push for $15 statewide minimum wage

Advocates and lawmakers in the Maryland General Assembly Monday began their drive to raise the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2023. The current minimum wage is $10.10. Legislation being proposed would also allow counties to increase their local minimum wage, as Montgomery County did in 2017 by raising it to $15 for all workers by 2022. [Baltimore Sun]

Man charged with sexual assault and indecent exposure at Wheaton Metro station

Metro Transit Police have charged 22-year-old Malik Dempsey with sexual assault indecent exposure after a woman told authorities that Dempsey grabbed her at the Wheaton Metro station around 4:30 p.m. Friday. A second person told police that a person matching Dempsey’s profile exposed himself on a Red Line train. [Washington Post]
