A county school bus driver was forced to stop on the shoulder of Interstate 270 outside Rockville Monday afternoon after a fight broke out on the bus, according to police and the school system.
County and state police were sent after receiving a report of an altercation and found the bus along the heavily traveled highway south of Wootton Parkway near Montrose Road, authorities said.
Law enforcement was on scene to “address the situation,” Montgomery County Public Schools spokesman Derek Turner said Tuesday.
One student was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
“Unfortunately, kids still act immature at times and get into altercations,” Turner said. “The injuries were minor, as far as I know, and everyone will be OK and we’ll learn some lessons, and hopefully the kids will learn things as well.”
State police received the call at 3:47 p.m. and county officers were also dispatched to assist.
Few details are available because minors are involved, police said. Charges were filed and other charges are pending.
