Woman carjacked in Wheaton

Two men were arrested Monday after allegedly stealing a vehicle at gunpoint in Wheaton.

The vehicle was found about 15 minutes later and police said they found a fake handgun. [Washington Post]

Government shutdown leaves county resident’s retirement in limbo

In its twelfth day, the government shutdown has postponed one Montgomery County man’s retirement, which was originally scheduled for Dec. 30.

David Fitzpatrick, who works at Independence National Historical Park, said he had planned to visit his daughter in Ireland but has stayed home until his retirement is finalized. [Fox 29]

Area’s first baby of 2019 from Silver Spring

The Washington, D.C.-area’s first baby of 2019 was born just 34 seconds after the start of the new year at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center.
