Montgomery County police arrested 21-year-old Kevin Justin McGuigan of Rockville Saturday and charged him with first degree murder of his mother, Jaclyn McGuigan, 49, of Rockville.
According to a news release, officers arrested McGuigan around 7 a.m. Saturday at a Rockville gas station, where he was then transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center. McGuigan is being held for a mental health evaluation and is scheduled for a bond review hearing Jan. 7 in Montgomery County District Court, Montgomery County State’s Attorney spokesman Ramon Korionoff wrote in an email Monday.
Police responded to a call at 6 p.m. Friday of a reported assault in front of the St. Raphael Catholic Church on Dunster Road in Potomac. Officers located the victim outside the church and attempted “life-saving measures.” She ultimately died of injuries that appeared to be from a “cutting type of instrument,” according to police.
Witnesses told police that they heard screaming, observed McGuigan standing over his mother and that he then fled in a Honda sedan. The vehicle was registered to McGuigan’s mother.
