Most county, municipal, state and federal offices and courts will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1.
Thinking of visiting a Smithsonian museum or the National Zoo over the weekend or on Monday or Tuesday? All are scheduled to be open with regular hours. However, if the federal government shutdown continues on Wednesday, the museums and zoo will be closed starting Jan. 2. The latest updates will be posted on the Smithsonian website.
Metrorail and Metrobus on Monday operate on a normal weekday schedule, with parking fees in effect; trains will run until 2 a.m. Tuesday. On New Year’s Day, the system operates on a Sunday schedule with Metrorail operating from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. There are no parking fees on Tuesday.
Montgomery County Ride On buses on Tuesday operate on a Sunday schedule.
The county’s Shady Grove Waste Transfer station closes at 3 p.m. Monday and is closed all day Tuesday. Recycling collections normally made on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday slide forward one day during New Year’s week.
Most banks will be closed. Businesses are open at the discretion of owners.
All emergency services, such and police, fire and rescue and the 911 call center are always open and operating.
