NASA pioneer Nancy Grace Roman Dies

Nancy Grace Roman, the first woman to hold an executive position at NASA, died Christmas day in Germantown. She was 93. Roman was heavily involved with the development of the Hubble Space Telescope and was the agency’s first chief of astronomy. She retired from NASA in 1979. [Associated Press]

Police made 36 DUI arrests last weekend

Montgomery County’s Police Alcohol Holiday Task Force collectively arrested 36 people for driving under the influence between Dec. 19 and Dec. 22. The task force, which consists of six police agencies, has arrested 244 people for DUI over the course of six weeks. [Patch]

Police searching for missing Calverton teen

Montgomery County police are searching for  Karmen Ariyana Matos, a 16-year-old from Calverton. Matos is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, 150 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair and braces. She was last seen wearing an olive green jacket, blue jeans and black tennis shoes. [Fox 5].
