Boyds home destroyed by fire

A single-story home on the 21000 block of Clarksburg Road near Sierra Court in Boyds was destroyed after a fire broke out Wednesday around 3:30 a.m., according to Montgomery County fire officials. The two people in the home made it out safely. Officials say the fire was particularly damaging because there was a delay in the alarm and the house was not close to a fire hydrant. [Fox 5]

WeddingWire acquires The Knot

The Chevy Chase-based website WeddingWire, founded in 2007, has acquired competing website The Knot for $900 million. The wedding industry represents $72 billion in annual revenue, with the average cost of a wedding reaching $32,000 in 2017. [WTOP]

Silver Spring doodler group says “lettering is freedom”

Since 2015, the Unofficial Hand Lettering Society of Silver Spring has been meeting monthly. The group’s popularity has grown, after graphic designer Christy Batta started it by first designing the logo for co-founder Amina Ahmad’s candle business. [Washington Post]
