A man who has lived in Rockville homeless shelters was arrested late Thursday and charged with assaulting a 5-year-old girl at the Rockville Town Center library last weekend.
Keelan Sternklar, 26, is accused of pulling down the girl’s pants and touching her in the children’s section of the library on Dec. 15, county police said.
Sternklar’s current address could not be confirmed, but court documents list it as the Montgomery County Men’s Emergency Shelter at 600 E. Gude Drive.
After county police released surveillance photos of a “person of interest” in the case on Thursday, a Rockville City Police officer spotted a man in a coffee shop near the library who resembled the person in the photos, police said.
Montgomery County officers arrested Sternklar at a homeless shelter in Derwood at 11:30 p.m.
The shelter is at 16911 Crabbs Branch Way, about four miles from the library.
Sternklar is charged with a third-degree sexual offense and second-degree assault, police said.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 18 in Montgomery County District Court.
Sternklar’s family filed a missing-persons report on him in June and he was found a few days later. At the time, he was known to stay at the Montgomery County Men’s Emergency Shelter, according to police.
