Fancy Nancy: Splendiferous Christmas—Friday through Sunday—Adventure Theatre, Glen Echo

The Maryland Youth Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker closes this weekend. There are five more opportunities to see it: Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Adult tickets cost $27 in advance and $32 at the door.

The Downtown Silver Spring holiday event kicks off with the weekly farmer’s market from 9 a.m to 1 p.m., and is followed by hot cocoa and DIY s’mores stations, and caroler performances from 2 to 4 p.m. This event was originally scheduled for Dec. 15, but rescheduled due to rain.
Handel’s Messiah—Saturday and Sunday—The Music Center at Strathmore
The National Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorale will perform holiday classics such as “And the Glory of the Lord” and the “Hallelujah Chorus.” The Saturday performance begins at 8 p.m.; the Sunday performance begins at 3 p.m. Adult tickets start at $34.
