Georgie’s Barber will arrive in Takoma Park in spring 2019, owned and operated by the family behind Scissor & Comb Salon.

Cortney and Ian Palmiero are opening the five-chair barbershop at 6929 Laurel Ave. Longtime Takoma Park resident and barber John Riley will serve as manager.

“The community needed it,” Ian Palmiero said. “It gives us the opportunity to service another part of the community that’s already being underserviced.”

Scissor & Comb at 7009 Carroll Ave. was voted best salon by the Washington Post Express for three straight years. Palmiero said it’s been his passion to open a barbershop and he wanted to do so prior to opening Scissor & Comb, but the area had a greater need for a salon.

The family is aiming for an opening in mid-March or early April. Georgie’s Barber is named for the Palmieros’ seven-month-old daughter.

“It’s her place,” Palmiero said.

The school has two facilities in Bethesda, and the northern operation will head to Cabin John Village after a decade at 10450 Auto Park Ave.

“We’re moving for expansion, and we’re hoping to broaden our community and expand to the Potomac-Rockville area,” Community Outreach Manager Josi Suslov said.

The new facility will be bigger and more open, in addition to being a more convenient site with more accessible parking, Suslov said. The Cabin John Village space will have a specific room for the early childhood music classes, as well as sound-proof classrooms.

The school holds recitals twice a year for its students, some of whom also earn the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York, according to the ISM website.

Private lessons are available. The school also offers summer camps, early childhood music classes and ensemble groups.

Real estate firms partner to renovate Silver Spring apartments

Miami real estate investment firm Elion Partners and Gaithersburg real estate development firm Buchanon Partners announced a partnership to renovate and add to Auden Place apartments in Silver Spring, according to a news release from LHB Communications.

The $100 million project includes restoring the current 164-unit building and developing the adjacent 3.5-acre land parcel into 254 multifamily units. Construction is expected to begin in early 2019.

The project is the third such venture between Elion and Buchanon, according to the news release.
Auden Place and the nearby property are near the Glenmont Metro Station.

“Our project in Glenmont will allow us to deliver new Class A multifamily inventory in a supply constrained market while improving the existing apartments, enabling us to provide upgraded market-rate housing at affordable rental rates,” Principal of Buchanan Partners Jimmy Roembke said in the news release. “We are excited to partner with Elion on this transaction and look forward to our continued investment in Glenmont.”

“Class A” residences are generally luxury properties less than 10 years old, or those that have been significantly renovated within the decade.
